Remember your little one’s first smiles with a baby photoshoot
A professional baby photoshoot can capture some of the most precious and fleeting moments in your child’s life. Babies grow so quickly and change at an astonishing rate. Before you know it they will be walking, talking, and no longer small enough to fit snugly in your arms.
Celebrate the joy and laughter
Every stage of your child’s growth and development is an amazing thing to see. From the first time they do tummy time, to sitting up unaided, and the very first steps they take. You will look back at those moments and wonder at how breathtaking your journey into motherhood is. You won’t want to miss a single day, a single minute, a single second.
A baby photography session at The Picture Box can help you capture memories of your growing baby that will last a lifetime. A collection of photographs of your baby’s first smiles and chuckles—all in stunning high definition that will look simply beautiful displayed in your home.

I’m Justine McMillan—an award-winning baby photographer. Photographing babies is the best job in the world—they are so adorable. And it is such a joy and privilege to capture those early first-time moments—their first smiles, first learning to crawl, and those first tentative steps.
Many of my customers come back time and again as their babies grow up in to children and young adults. These parents tell me how precious those early years photographs are. The early milestones in your baby’s life are fleeting and they grow so quickly. It is so exciting to look forward to the next stage in their development that those earlier special moments can be easily forgotten.
Having beautiful photographs to look back on can help you remember those moments for ever. I encourage you and your partner to take part in the photo session so that you are included in some of the photographs. These images make great gifts and can be shared with grandparents and other family members. Displaying pictures of your child in your home, especially images which include you and your family, can help them develop a strong sense of belonging. It can also boost their self-confidence and self-esteem as they grow up.
I hope you give me the opportunity to create a beautiful collection of baby photographs for you and your family to treasure and share.

Babies always make wonderful subjects and baby photography can be done at any stage. But as a guide, these milestones usually work well.
Eight weeks. If your baby was photographed as a newborn at around the two week mark, there is great opportunity to follow this up at the 8 weeks mark when baby is making lots of eye contact and smiling readily. At this age they still have very uncomplicated wants and needs such as feeding, dry nappy, sleep and a little mental stimulation. With those needs met, baby is usually more than happy and ready to smile for the camera.
Four months. At four months old baby usually has a little bit more neck control and is happy doing ‘tummy time’ and raising their head for smiles and chuckles. Quite often they have enough neck control to be able sit with help, either in your arms or in some of the special props we have for this age of baby.
Six to ten months. This is the age when babies start to sit unaided and sometimes even crawl. They are very interested in their surroundings and curious. This can result in some amazing facial expressions that photogrpah well and make for very cute baby portraits.
A baby photo session can last for up to an hour but this is obviously led by your baby. Prior to the session I will chat to you about what styles of photography you like and your ideas for your baby photography shoot, and we will discuss baby’s likes and dislikes. Your session can be scheduled around feeding and nap times but as a general rule babies are usually at their best in a morning or early afternoon. Late afternoons and early evenings are best avoided. They can quite often be an unsettled time for a lot of babies especially—if they’ve had a busy day.
After your baby photoshoot you will be invited back to the studio (usually one week later) to view your images on the big screen in stunning high definition and choose what you would like to buy.
It is best to book two to three weeks in advance to make sure I can fit you in at a time that suits you and your baby.

Baby photo session FAQs
How much does a baby photography session cost?
Your baby photoshoot will cost just £25.
When do I need to pay?
I will take payment for the session fee over the phone when we make your appointment. Payment for photography products is required with your order at the viewing session.
How long will my baby photography session take?
A baby photography session usually takes up to one hour.
Can I book a weekend appointment for a baby photoshoot?
I do offer some Saturday morning appointments but these get booked up very quickly. The sooner you book, the more likely you are to get the exact date you would like.
What should my baby wear to the photography shoot?
Simple neutral colours are best for a baby photoshoot. Whites, pastels, neutral greys and browns all work really well. It is best to avoid frilly collars because they tend to bunch up around baby’s face—especially if they are under six months old. It is also a good idea to avoid patterned fabrics as these can be overpowering in photographs and distract from baby. Do bring accessories like hats bow ties, hair bands, crowns etc. If you would like to join in and be in some of the photos, mums and dads should bring both light, neutral tops AND dark/black tops for a couple of different looks.
Is there anything I need to bring to my baby photography session?
If you are bottle feeding bring at least two bottles with you just in case. If you have anything of sentimental value that you would like to include in the shoot (such as a special blanket, toy or outfit) then bring it along. It is also a good idea to bring a pacifier if baby uses one. You can also bring any props of your own you wish to use. We have had dads bring along a motorcycle helmet to sit a tiny baby in, a guitar for baby to (very carefully) sit on and all sorts of unusual items.
My baby has flaky skin/baby acne and doesn’t look their best at the moment. What should I do?
Don’t worry, I will edit any blemishes or imperfections in baby’s skin to look more pleasing in the finished images.
Can I buy the digital images?
Yes. I offer a range of packages, some of which include high resolution digital images, as well as printed photographs and wall art.
Can I share the images on social media?
Yes—I’m sure you’ll want to show off your beautiful baby photographs. But I’d love it if you mention The Picture Box when you do. It helps to spread the word and is great for my business.
